I have my little ironing board and cutting mat behind my chair. When i'm really cutting though, I take out the big mat and cut on the dining table. So far the space is working out. I'm definitely getting more crafting done, and much faster.
On a different note...my son is turning ONE this Friday! I've been busy preparing for his monster-themed party. Below is a monster rag quilt I made for him the other night. Literally, I put it together in one night! They're so quick and easy! I used a combination of the following two collections to make the quilt if you're interested: Don't be Afraid and Down Under. For the backing I used a minky cuddle fabric which was so fluffy I didn't even need to put batting in between. So cute and best of all, it's super soft!
Happy quilting! :)

I love your space! The idea of the sheer curtain is a great solution. And your wee one with that monster quilt -- pure preciousness! Hoping for more sunshine to come. Weather folks say it's coming.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jean! Yeah, the sheer curtain is a nice way to hide everything especially if i'm mid-project and my space is a mess (which it usually is). Stay warm! :)
DeleteAwfully cute monster quilt. Do you back it the regular way..never made one. Now that I have a grandson I'd like to try your monster quilt.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna - I actually just made a post over at the Bursting the Seams blog about this quilt and how I made it. Check it out here: http://blog.westseattlefabriccompany.com/2013/01/had-to-share-this.html

Can you believe he is going to be one! Glad you were able to come back and show your beatiful work. How are your other 'kids' doing. Thanks for sharing his birthday quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathe - I know, it's insane. My furry kids are doing okay...they've had a 'ruff' year getting less attention, but things are getting better now that E is starting to interact with them :) Thanks for your comment. Take care!
DeleteLoved getting a peak into your studio....
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your craft space, I love it, especially the idea of being able to shut it off with the curtain. I craft in the family room on the dining table which all has to be moved at mealtimes. Got a spare bedroom at the moment as daughter has moved out and I am very tempted to make it into a craft room. Fabulous quilt, I have just made a cushion using this technique, they are so quick to make and so effective. Love the monster fabric you have used.
ReplyDeleteI love your sewing space...just perfect with the light of the window and the shelves at hand to store all your sewing sundries :o)
ReplyDeleteSo cute!!! Grate job!!
ReplyDeletelove the quilt! What size were the squares and what seam allowance did you use?
ReplyDeleteKatherine
Thanks Katherine! I did 8 inch squares with a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

Hi - What is the name of the ikea table you ended up with to support your 30 lb machine?? What was the previous table you tried? Thank you for sharing your beautiful workspace!

Very cute quilt! I have a question, what is the secret to sewing with Minky? I tried switching needles, stitch tension, etc. & my machine would not sew through the backing on it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for any hints you can give me.

Debi
Hi Debi - i'm assuming you're using minky as a quilt backing? Since minky is really slippery and stretchy, when basting try using basting spray in addition to lots of pins. Also, you'll need an even feed walking foot. You can also try using a quilting needle or a 'sharp' needle. Hope that helps. Minky looks great, but it can also be pain in the butt!good luck!
