I wanted to verify that it really does weigh just 12 pounds - the weight varies with each website! (some have 12lb, 15lb or even 18lb!) Your room looks nice and sunny - with a view to create! I'm happy to hear you want to try some quilting - i have a feeling you will get the quilting bug once you start. :) To piece together a quilt top, you'll always want to use a 1/4" seam allowance. They sell generic feet that have a quarter inch guide that you can buy. Or with Janome, you can use the standard presser foot and put the stitch width to about 6.5, then just guide the edge of the fabric along the presser foot and you'll get a 1/4" seam allowance. For the actual quilting part (this is when you sew your three layers together: quilt top, batting and backing fabric), you'll need to get an even-feed walking foot as our Janome didn't come with one. Here's the one I bought and it works like a gem: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003EMLDX4/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00 hope this helps!Quilting In The Rainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00251493312862760186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7503158528749436893.post-38521869542395169252012-11-13T14:02:29.234-08:002012-11-13T14:02:29.234-08:00I just found your website and find it delightful. ...I just found your website and find it delightful. I'm fairly new to sewing. I started out on an old metal singer from the 60's and just got a new Janome DC1050 for my birthday. Although I really liked the old Singer, this Janome is awesome. I want to start to try some quilting. Any suggestions on what kind of foot I should use to quilt? I keep finding conflicting information. Thanks so much, I'm so glad I found your site!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12997922772990741286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7503158528749436893.post-8017553238090135572012-11-05T02:08:23.776-08:002012-11-05T02:08:23.776-08:00Good post on chevern curtains, the best thing is g...Good post on chevern curtains, the best thing is goals are focused rather than resolutions. I'm in the process of organizing my stash, like i said, I'm really starting fresh. In fact I've donated a lot of my fabric, only so i can buy more of course. ;) As for my ever wandering scissors and collection of rulers, they're all tucked away in that new cabinet i have under my desk, along with over 1,000 pins. I'll be sure to do a post about it (I've sewn smaller projects with it so far and i love it, but I haven't done a quilt yet), and so far I'm so impressed. I would recommend it as a beginner sewing machine because it sews smoothly and it's very easy to work with, and you can't beat the price.
